Accessibility statement

1. What this statement covers

This statement applies to the website aemsystems.nl, in Dutch and in English (under /en). Websites and software we build for clients are not covered; we agree on their accessibility per project.

2. The standard: WCAG 2.2 level AA

We follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. That is the international standard for accessible websites, and also the basis of the European standard EN 301 549. At the time of this statement the website partially complies: most things are in order, but one point does not fully comply yet (see article 4).

3. What we have done

• Language. Every page states the language it is written in, so a screen reader pronounces the text correctly.
• Structure. Every page has one main heading, a logical order of subheadings and recognisable regions for the navigation, the content and the footer.
• Straight to the content. Keyboard users get a “Skip to content” link first and do not have to go through the whole menu.
• Keyboard. All links, buttons, menus and the contact form can be operated with the keyboard, with a clearly visible focus outline. The services menu and the mobile menu close with Escape.
• Text alternatives. Meaningful images have a description; purely decorative images and videos are hidden from screen readers so they are not read out.
• Contrast. Text is light on a dark background, with a contrast well above the minimum requirement of 4.5 : 1.
• Motion. If “reduce motion” is switched on on your device, we skip the opening animation, show text straight away instead of animating it, and stop the background videos.
• Visual effects. The code effect when you point at a link is purely visual; a screen reader simply reads out the link’s real text.
• Zooming. The layout adapts to the screen width and zooming is never blocked.
• Contact form. Every field has a visible label. Messages about sending the form are also passed on to screen readers. The spam check is invisible: you do not have to solve a puzzle or click on pictures.
• Without JavaScript. The content of every page can be read without JavaScript. Only the footer and the contact form need JavaScript; if it is switched off, we show our email address instead of the form.

4. What does not fully comply yet

Background videos without a pause button

At the top of the homepage and in the footer of every page, a short video plays in a loop. These videos have no sound and contain no information, but there is no button to pause them. WCAG does require that for motion lasting longer than five seconds (success criterion 2.2.2). If you switch on “reduce motion” on your device, the videos stop. A visible pause button is on our list.

5. How we assessed this

We assessed the website ourselves in September 2026. All pages were checked automatically for language, headings, text alternatives, form field labels and link texts. In addition, we tested keyboard operation by hand, the behaviour with “reduce motion” and the display on a phone screen.

No independent audit by an external agency has taken place. If you do run into something, we would like to hear about it.

7. Laws and regulations

Since 28 June 2025, accessibility requirements have applied in the European Union to a number of products and services, under the European Accessibility Act (Directive (EU) 2019/882). Microenterprises that provide services (fewer than ten employees and an annual turnover or balance sheet total of no more than €2 million) are exempt. AEM Systems is such a microenterprise. We therefore publish this statement voluntarily, because we believe a website should work for everyone.

8. Changes

If something changes on the website that affects accessibility, or we resolve a point from article 4, we will update this statement. The version and the date of the last change are always shown at the top.
